Traditional Riding

Our sport is our therapy!

Lessons for traditional, non-disabled riders are available year-round, from beginner through advanced levels. Riders may take lessons on a Wheatland Farm horse or pony, or trailer in one of their own. We also offer lessons off-site for riders needing assistance with their own horse or pony at home or at another facility.

Dressage training board is available for para equestrian athletes who have their own horse, and who have strong competitive goals. This program provides instruction, schooling and training of the horse, and a pathway to the elite level of para equestrian dressage for riders wishing to compete at the CPEDI level.

Families who have a child enrolled in our therapeutic riding program, our adaptive swim program, or riders that have a sibling with special needs, qualify for reduced lesson rates. Please ask the office for details of our scholarships, reduced rates, and payment plans.

Our facility & program

Our facility is equipped with an indoor arena with a heated viewing area, a full-sized competition outdoor arena, and a robust para-horse development program for our equines.  A custom-built Sure Hands automated lift allows our riders with paralysis, weakened joints or other physical challenges to mount and dismount our horses and ponies with maximum comfort and safety.
Our instructors and support staff are highly qualified with certifications as USEF Para-Dressage coaches and US Pony Club Instructors, as well as being competitive themselves at the national (USEF) and international (FEI) levels in dressage and eventing.  Our staff have all completed various levels of training in Parelli Natural Horsemanship (PNH)  and our adaptive riding instructors have extensive experience in therapeutic riding instruction.

Our horses and ponies are trained according to the principals of Parelli Natural Horsemanship, and ALL lesson horses and ponies are trained to AT LEAST Training Level in dressage, and most are schooling First Level. Several of our performance horses are schooling at or above 2nd Level dressage, and we have three at FEI level. This gives our students the very best opportunity to achieve excellent practice, benefitting from the exceptionally correct movement of our horses and ponies.

Our horses and ponies are suitable for both lessons and sport, able to teach inexperienced riders, while also being very competitive in the show ring. Several of our FEI horses do require advanced level riders with pre-requisite skills. Many of our horses and ponies are trail and cross country trained and schooled.

For the comfort of the horse and rider, all of our horses and ponies are fitted with their own CUSTOM saddles by Antares Custom Saddlery, each piece handmade in France. Wheatland Farm is proudly sponsored by Antares Saddlery, one of the world's finest professional saddle makers.
